Cubs Swimming Gala 2000

On Saturday evening, 7 October 2000, almost 70
Cubs from local Packs took part in the Melton
Mowbray District Cubs 'Millennium' Swimming Gala.
The Cubs had a very enjoyable evening taking part
in a variety of events that included races for beginners and
non-swimmers. The novelty race involved the construction of Sydney
Harbour Bridge, inspired by the recent Olympic Games!
Standards were very high and only 10 points
separated 1st and 3rd places. Taking first place
were 4th Darwin, in second place 4th Livingstone
and 1st Waltham, winners from 1999, came in third.
Congratulations to the 17 Cubs from the 36th who
took part in the event, the largest contingent
from the district. Many of the under 9½ year old Cubs helped
other Packs make up their teams. The team from the 36th finished 5th
overall.
Mark S. (36th Scout) served squash to the
officials and collected the scorecards. Mark's Mum, Andrea, was
scorekeeper and Martin, his Dad, was announcer and starter. Daughter
Haley, a Beaver soon to be Cub, was part of the swimming team. She came
3rd in the 25 metre under 9½ breaststroke. A family affair!
